For as long as we can remember, college has been the one and only straight path to a career. We have been raised with the idea that a 4-year degree = good paying job!

Sadly, today that doesn't seem like such a sure bet. For many, going to college to get a 4-year degree may not be the best option. All we hear during high school and throughout the media is "go to college" . Simply go and you'll make it. Any other possible alternative to college is viewed as taboo. Many students who enter college are under the impression that they simply need to sit in class, pass tests and graduate, then their future career will be waiting for them. All they have to do is apply. Today's economy is serving as a wake up call for many. People who finish undergrad with all kinds of degrees find it very difficult to find a job. The jobs that are available are no more attractive than the ones that were around before college.

Is the promotion of four-year colleges the best answer today? Is that the best path to a stable career?
Can you even compete today with a simple bachelors degree?

These are just some of the questions that many potential college grads are going to have to face. For those of us who went to college and have had the "college experience" need to look back and see if it was worth it, and whether it was the best option at the time. Everyone says, hindsight is 20/20, but we can help the future college students by analyzing our choices and helping them make theirs.
